Choosing us for your care
Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 8:38PM The hallmark of our care is complete continuity
From early pregnancy until your baby is 6 weeks old, you will be cared for by one midwife whose practice is supported by an Obstetrician, who you would meet in your pregnancy. This means there is no need for transfer of care to other care providers, just continuous and seamless care, come what may. The care is focussed on natural birth, and supports VBAC, vaginal breech and twin birth and water birth.
Birth options
Healthy, low-risk women have the option of homebirth or hospital birth. Women with higher needs are cared for with knowledge and skill and continuity, birthing at Westmead Hospital. Regardless of needs and preferences, all women have my skilled and continuous care throughout the pregnancy - new parenting continuum.
Individual care
Each client has a tailored plan of care that is developed in consultation with the client at the start of care. This is based on one-on-one assessment, personal service and commitment to a safe and empowering experience.
Areas of expertise
I have considerable skill and experience in helping women achieve a VBAC, and in helping first-time Mums birth their babies normally and naturally. Women report exceptionally high rates of satisfaction with their care, and rates of intervention are incredibly low.
Location
My rooms are conveniently located in Bexley, with free parking right outside the door. I also consult from Westmead Private Hospital. The environment is warm and comfortable and gives a sense of ease and privacy.
What I do
- Provide skilled recommendations and information to women to assist them towards a normal, healthy pregnancy and birth
- Encourage women to be active participants in their care and in all decisions made
- Help women to feel confident, empowered and calm as they approach birth
Who I help
Most of my clientele are women birthing their first babies, repeat clients, or women planning a VBAC. I also love to care for women with "high risk" pregnancies. Why do I do this? Because these three groups of women have the most to gain through private midwifery care, and it is a pleasure and an honour to see birth transform women into empowered, confident mothers.
Time
Appointments are long enough to answer your questions, talk through your concerns, get to know each other, and offer you detailed information on tests, scans, birth options and baby care. Across the course of your care, we will spend some 45 hours together as we prepare for this life-changing moment. You may access as many appointments as you feel are necessary. Same-day and next-day appointments are available.
Continuity of carer
From your first visit through to when your baby is 6 weeks old, I will provide all of your care. This means you will benefit from care from one person who knows you well. You will not need to repeat yourself to a new midwife at each visit, and you will not experience conflicting advice.
Comprehensive education program
Tailored to your needs and delivered within a structured program that ensures you have the information you need, when you need it. The education program has received excellent feedback from couples.
On-call availability
Once you are accepted into care, I am on call for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for urgent concerns.
Choice
I assist women to birth their babies at home (if low-risk) or in hospital, with full support for a waterbirth, VBAC, vaginal twin or vaginal breech birth. I am comfortable providing care in either setting.
