General questions > Questions about care > How do I know if I can have my baby at home?

Home birth is an option for low-risk, healthy women.  There are a few things that may arise that would mean I would provide your birth care in hospital:

  1. Twins
  2. A breech baby (baby coming bottom-first, rather than head-first)
  3. A previous caesarean
  4. Pregnancy beyond 42 weeks
  5. Labour before 37 weeks of pregnancy
  6. High blood pressure
  7. Diabetes in pregnancy
  8. If there are concerns about the well-being of the baby
  9. There may be other reasons too
